Reasons you Need Water Fountain Filters

Christopher Smith

When you want to buy a pond fountain and filter, check first to make sure that you are buying a filter that is really meant for a pond. The right kind of water fountain filters contain bio-elements that promote the good bacteria in your eco-system while eliminating dangerous chemicals such as ammonia and nitrites. Many of these pond filters come in kits that contain everything you need to clean up your pond water and create a healthy environment for fish and plants. What you want to buy is a submersible water pond filter that filters water down through filtering materials, such as foam, and then recirculates it back into your pond via the fountain head. When the fountain stops producing a lot of water, you know it’s time to clean the filter. Replacement filters can also be purchased for these units.

A water fountain filter can add beauty to the pond you’ve build in your yard by adding movement and life to an otherwise stagnant pool. Some people make the mistake, however, of buying simple fountains which can be purchased for less than $30. Unfortunately, as many of them have found out the hard way, a real problem lies in the fact that these cheap water fountain filters aren’t meant to be used in ponds. Instead, they were created to be used in pools of clean water where they won’t clog. If you want to have a filter that remains effective without constant maintenance, then you’ll have to buy a different model that was built specifically for water ponds.

You need a filter with a motorized pump in order to keep debris from entering the motor. Most of these pumps operate quietly so that they don’t disturb the atmosphere you are trying to create. They will operate fountains of up to about 3 feet. A word of warning, though. Once you add a water fountain filter to a stagnant pool, you need to have a little patience. It’s going to take your pump filter at least a month to get everything cleaned up the way you want it. Give it time, though, and your fish and plants are going to love you for their clean pond environment.
