Bird lovers always ensures that every bird that lands in their yard gets food so they build a bird feeder. In this way, they are getting the birds’ attention and attracting them to stop by and eat. You can either build one on your own or you can simply purchase it. However building one yourself can save a you a lot of money as it is fairly easy to do so. The mechanism of a bird feeder is simple – you put the bird food to attract birds that are freely roaming around.

You can make use of various materials in homemade bird feeders. Basically you can search for these materials anywhere – such as your backyard, storage area or simply in the surroundings. You may be astonished to find out that some things that look useless can be of some use. A lot of individuals would rather make their own homemade bird feeders than buy one because it cuts off the costs of purchasing one significantly. And by making your own, it gives you control on what you are making with the designs, materials to use and the size.

In making homemade bird feeders, you have different choices for the material to use. Recycled products can also be used. It’s too easy to make your own feeder. If you want to use an empty plastic bottle for your own bird feeder, you need only 5 steps to complete making your own feeder.

What you need first is to thoroughly clean the plastic bottles and make sure to let it dry because it can spoil your bird food if you place it in a wet container.

Next, you need to cut holes all around the bottle where you will put 2 or 3 sticks from one hole and across to another hole where it allows the birds to land on the sticks. The sticks that you must insert should be long enough so the bird can comfortable rest on it. Other holes are where you place the bird food and for the birds to insert their beaks. After this you must have bird food ready such as sunflower seeds or other seeds that they might like; you can purchase them in local pet shops.

After that, you need to find a strong string or rope for tying the plastic bottle. In tying it, you need to tie the rope or string in the top part of the bottle where the cap cover is located. Finally, complete your bird feeder by spotting the right spot to hang it so that birds can actually land on it. The best area where you can hang it is in a tree – just make sure that you do not let it hang too low as you might scare the birds or too high whereas you’ll be having troubles maintaining it. Young children must have adult supervision when making their own homemade bird feeders.
